Nov 05, 2015 Microsoft is aware of issues with Office for Mac 2011, and Office 2016 for Mac on El Capitan. No timeframe announced by them for fixes. Keep checking your Office updates. It wasn't the collection. Through some 'printf' debuggging, tracked down the issue. Or, at least, found a solution. The following is somewhat speculative on what was happening.
